Studies show that kids who eat breakfast have higher test scores, superior concentration and better muscle coordination, and they're less likely to miss classes or report to school late. Breakfast eaters also tend to exhibit better classroom behavior and perform better in certain subjects like math. As with lunch, our breakfast menu meets state requirements regarding nutrition with a focus on whole grains, plenty of fruit and milk. Breakfast is $1.00 per student and students that qualify can receive breakfast at a reduced cost or free. We encourage you to take advantage of this convenient and healthy program.

Applications for free and reduced-price meals are available at the main office in all buildings and in the Food Service office at FJSHS. Please complete one application per family and return with your child to school or you may mail it to the Board of Education Office, 1001 Park Avenue, Fostoria, Ohio 44830; attention Holly Reinbolt, Food Service Supervisor. If the application is approved, your child(ren) will begin to receive or continue to receive free or reduced-price meals from the date of approval. A letter will be sent home notifying you of your child's meal status. Applications can be submitted at any time during the school year if your family financial circumstances change. All information submitted to the school is kept confidential. There is no discrimination or identification of free or reduced price paying students. We urge all families to consider filling out an application.

Students with food allergies that require special dietary needs - substitutions or modifications in school meals will be made for students whose disability restricts their diet in accordance with USDA regulation 7 CFR Part 15b. Please have the evaluation form completed and signed by Physician and Parent. Click here for the required Evaluation Form. No substitutions or modifications will be made until a completed evaluation form is received. This form must be updated each school year.

In order to be compliant with federal regulations from the National School Lunch Program, Fostoria City Schools’ charge policy for student accounts will allow students to charge a maximum amount of two lunches ($5.00). No charges are permitted on ala carte items. Repayment for any charged meals is expected the next school day. Students who have reached their charge limit will be offered an alternate meal that consists of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a milk or juice. Students over the charge limit will not be allowed to purchase ala carte items. Students that do not have funds to pay for their meal and are not able to charge should notify the first food service staff member in line and they will then receive the alternate meal. The purpose of this policy is to ensure consistency and fair practices with Food Service student accounts throughout the district and meeting the federal guidelines mentioned above.

In order to accommodate student accounts, there is an online system for payment on our FCS district website. Click on the Parents/Students tab, and a drop-down will show Total Access (School Dining).  Please click on this and follow the directions listed on the page.  If you do not have a username and password please contact Holly Reinbolt, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or Donna Elchert, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., for assistance.  During the sign-up process, you will be asked if you would like to receive an email notification when the account balance drops below the district-determined amount of $12.50.  This should eliminate the student running out of funds.  However, glitches in the system do occur and this is not a program that is managed by our food service or technology departments.  Please notify us if there is an issue and we will work to provide as much assistance as possible.
We thank you for your support and cooperation in advance.  If you have any questions throughout the year please do not hesitate to contact our Food Service Department at 419-436-4114

The End of a Year Brings About New Beginnings

Here at FCS 2018 has been a year of adventure.  From a cold January morning when a small fire forced the relocation of 700 students and then around 75 staff members for a month, to the revision of our strategic plan in the district, to a later than normal start of the school year there have been many opportunities for the district and the team to come together for the collective good of all involved.  That is exactly what has happened over the course of this year.  This year has provided unique opportunities for all of us to work as a community to deal with the difficult and the unknown.

There is much to be excited about through the challenges that 2018 have presented.  There have been steady improvements through adversity as one can see through the increase in scores on our report card, the Intermediate building earning the Momentum Award for the third year in a row, our high school volleyball team winning a league title, and setting the mark for overall wins in a season, a new single game rushing record in football, our performance groups excelling and being the best in the area.  Then we look at the start of our children’s choir at Riley, and the other various opportunities that we have for our students to participate in giving back whether it be through helping at the annual community dinner, various collection drives both locally, and nationally, our Relay for Life drives, blood drives and so many more the list could go on.

The message is consistent and needs to continue that there is great opportunity and accomplishment when willing to work to overcome adversity, partner with one another, and have a passion for making a difference on a daily basis.  As we move into 2019 this is the focus.  The upcoming year is going to be very exciting for our district.  The future of our school district is being built in front of us daily.  As we move towards the fall we will be moving all of our students on to one campus. This continues to open the doors of opportunity for providing unique experiences for our students.  As we make decisions in the district we are making those with the thought “what is best for kids”.  I think this is evident in the opportunities that we have started with updating our curriculum over the past several years, some of which had not been done in over a decade, implementing a 1:1 initiative with our technology in grades 5-12, and the community partnerships that we have been creating with organizations and businesses in Fostoria.  I am very excited with the progress that is occurring in the work to expose our students to careers early and often throughout the years and at various age groups so that the students have multiple opportunities to reflect on what they would like their future to look like.

All of our work is wrapped in the vision of the district “Inspire. Succeed. Leave a Legacy.”  This year has provided us the opportunity to overcome and stay on course, and I am sure that the upcoming year will provide many more opportunities to demonstrate our growth and achievements.  As John F. Kennedy once said “Not every child has an equal talent or an equal ability or an equal motivation, but they should have an equal right to develop their talent and their ability and their motivation, to make something of themselves”.  These words coupled with our vision provide the reminder of what a privilege it is to work with the students, staff, and community on a daily basis.  I wish you all a Happy Holiday season and look forward to what the New Year has in store for all of us.
